Our home shapes how we feel every day. When a space feels cluttered or chaotic, it can cause us to feel stressed and overwhelmed. Resetting your home creates a calm environment that works for us, not against us. This process doesn’t have to be rushed or perfect. Instead, it’s about making your home comfortable, supportive, and truly yours.
This guide walks you through simple steps to reset each room. You’ll find practical advice to help you prep, tidy, clean, re-home items, and finally rest in your refreshed space.
Step One: Prep Yourself
Before you start, gather your cleaning supplies and containers to sort items. Having everything ready makes the process smoother and less stressful.
Use a trash bag for garbage.
Use cardboard boxes for recycling and donations.
Use bins or baskets for items that don’t belong in the room.
Put on your favorite music or a podcast and get started.
Step Two: Tidy the Room
Start by picking up everything off the floors and surfaces.
Put items back where they belong if their home is in the same room.
If they belong somewhere else, place them in the appropriate bin to re-home later.
Toss trash into the trash bag.
Place recyclables in the recycling box.
Set aside items to be donated.
For example, if you find books in the living room that belong in the bedroom, place them in the bin for re-homing. This keeps the room focused on its purpose and reduces distractions.
Step Three: Clean the Room
This step isn’t about deep cleaning but refreshing the space.
Work from top to bottom to avoid re-soiling cleaned areas.
Wipe down surfaces, window ledges, and shelves.
Vacuum or sweep the floors.
Change linens, such as pillowcases or curtains, if needed.
A quick wipe of dusty surfaces and a vacuum can make a big difference in how a room feels.
Step Four: Re-Home
Once the room is tidy and clean, take out the trash and recycling. Put donation boxes in your car or a designated spot to drop off later. This step clears clutter from your home and keeps your reset progress moving forward. Return items that belong in other rooms to their proper places.
Step 5: Rest
After all the work, take a moment to enjoy the calm you created. Sit down with a cup of tea, read a book, or simply breathe in the refreshed atmosphere.
Resetting your home isn’t about perfection. It’s about creating a space that supports your peace of mind and daily comfort. Each room you reset brings you closer to a home that works for you.
That's all for today. Happy January and New Year.
